Clan Trust supports aspiring young farmers and rural education at this year’s Royal Norfolk Show

Discovery Zone at the Royal Norfolk Show

Education is top of the agenda at the Royal Norfolk Show this year, with Norfolk’s Clan Trust donating a generous £10k towards the STEMM village, Discovery Zone and the brand-new sheep shearing demonstration.

The free, hands-on activities available at the show will closely align with one of Clan Trust’s three pillars, ‘young people in agriculture’, which focuses on financially supporting projects aimed at educating the next generation eager to learn about farming, food production and the environment.

Featuring a range of engaging and interactive exhibits, the new STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) Village will offer a unique learning experience to inspire and educate teenagers aged 14-19. Topics will cover the future of food production through precision agriculture and how offshore wind generates clean energy for our region.

The Discovery Zone will be located next to the STEMM Village and is delivered in partnership with the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association and its education arm, the Food and Farming Discovery Trust. This year it will take on the theme of ‘the lifecycle of sugar beet’, where attendees will learn about the process of planting, growing, and harvesting sugar beet, as well as the factory process to turn it into the sugar we all know.

The Royal Norfolk Show has a track record of welcoming schools and young people from across the county and further afield, to experience country life and what it has to offer. Over 12,000 school and home-educated children are expected to attend this year’s Show.

Thanks to this generous donation from the Clan Trust, there will also be a new sheep shearing demonstration where visitors can understand the process of sheep shearing and what the role of a sheep shearer entails.
