New Chairman for Clan Trust
Norfolk-based charity announces Ben Turner as new chairman at the recent AGM.
Established in 1968, the Clan Trust financially supports individuals and communities based in Norfolk, by offering funding for projects linked to agriculture and the countryside.
At the most recent AGM, which took place in June, Robert Alston, who held the role of Chairman from 2021 for three years, handed over the role to Ben Turner.
Ben, who was born and raised on the family farm in South Norfolk, holds a director role at family business Ben Burgess and sits on a number of other local interest groups and councils, all related to agriculture and the food industry.
“I am honoured to step into the role of Chairman and continue supporting rural communities across Norfolk,” says Ben.
“The Clan Trust supports agriculture throughout Norfolk in many ways, and I will ensure the legacy of our founder continues to provide opportunity under the guidance of our team of Trustees.”
The Trust regularly supports farming activity and education throughout Norfolk, and recently made a donation of £10k towards the STEMM village, Discovery Zone and the new sheep shearing demonstration at the Royal Norfolk Show.
Other notable activity includes supporting the Norfolk Federation of Young Farmers Clubs, and educational scholarships for those studying degrees linked to agriculture through partnerships with the University of East Anglia and Harper Adams University.
Electing a new chairman every three years keeps a fresh momentum within the Trust, whilst allowing each Trustee to lead the charity.
It was also announced at the AGM that Caroline Steggles, Clan Trust Trustee who runs several rural businesses with her husband, including The Goat Shed at Honingham, and is also a Trustee for East Anglia's Children's Hospices, will take on the role of Vice Chairwoman, as well as supporting the educational projects of the Trust, donations and marketing.
Former Clan Trust Chairman and Norfolk farmer Robert Alston, who takes care of investments, finance and property on behalf of the Trust, will remain on the board of Trustees.
